Jordi Alonso is a medical doctor (MD) (1980), doctor in Medicine (PhD) (1990), specialist in Family and Community Medicine (1985) and specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health (2003). He is currently coordinator of the Health Services Research Group, at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, Barcelona, Spain. He is Professor of Public Health at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, and Associate Faculty, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Dr. Alonso's research focuses on Mental Health Epidemiology and the Burden of Mental Disorders, an area where he is among the most frequently cited researchers worldwide. Jordi Alonso is the European coordinator of the WHO World Mental Health (WMH) Surveys initiative. Since 2019 he is deputy scientific director of the Spanish Centre for Biomedical Research Networks in Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP).
