Philippe Mortier

Principal Investigator

Dr Philippe Mortier is a medical doctor specialized in psychiatry, and currently a Miguel Servet post-doctoral researcher at the Health Services Research Group led by Jordi Alonso - Hospital del Mar Research Institute (IMIM), Barcelona, Spain. His research is situated in the field of clinical epidemiology of suicidal thoughts and behaviours. He is currently leading a line of research that aims to develop data-driven and evidence-based decision aid tools to improve the real-world clinical management of patients with risk for self-harm and suicide. Dr Mortier is a member of the Advisory Board of The International Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research. He is an active collaborator in the World Mental Health Survey Initiative, coordinated by Harvard Medical School, providing a multidisciplinary network of over 150 international leading researchers. He is also a member of CIBER in Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP), the largest public health research network in Spain.

Jordi Alonso

Jordi Alonso is a medical doctor (MD) (1980), doctor in Medicine (PhD) (1990), specialist in Family and Community Medicine (1985) and specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health (2003). He is currently coordinator of the Health Services Research Group, at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, Barcelona, Spain. He is Professor of Public Health at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, and Associate Faculty, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Dr. Alonso's research focuses on Mental Health Epidemiology and the Burden of Mental Disorders, an area where he is among the most frequently cited researchers worldwide. Jordi Alonso is the European coordinator of the WHO World Mental Health (WMH) Surveys initiative. Since 2019 he is deputy scientific director of the Spanish Centre for Biomedical Research Networks in Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP).

Gemma Vilagut

Dr Gemma Vilagut has a PhD in Biomedicine (2017) and a Bachelor degree in Statistics. One of her main areas of research is related to implementation and analysis of epidemiologic studies on mental disorders and suicidality in different populations (general population, university students and health-care workers). She has been a member of the research team of 16 scientific projects (3 funded by the EU Commission), being PI or Co-PI of three national projects (two of them currently: ISCIII-FEDER (PI19/00109) y CIBERESP Intramural (ESP21PI05). Dr Vilagut has published more than 150 scientific articles in indexed journals, with more than 12,500 citations (h-index=53, Scopus Jan 2021). In the last 5 years, more than 15 of the published scientific papers are in the field of suicide research.

Franco Amigo

Franco Amigo holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Chile (2017), a Master's in Management and Public Policy from the University of Chile (2018), and a Master's in Public Health from Pompeu Fabra University (2020). Franco serves as the project manager for the PERMANENS project and also for the CARES and RECIPROC projects. He works as a lecturer at the International University of Catalonia. His research interests focus on healthcare services, particularly in improving the quality of care.

Montse López

Montse López (MSc) is a biochemist with a Master’s Degree in Molecular Biotechnology from the Universitat de Barcelona. She has extensive experience in medical biotechnology, having worked as a research associate at the Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB) and Confo Therapeutics. Currently, Montse is pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Health and Cooperation at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and collaborates with the NGO World Project. She serves as the project manager for the PERMANENS, CARES, and RECIPROC projects. Her primary research interests include social determinants of health, mental health, and child development, focusing on how inequalities are biologically embodied.

Miguel Angel Mayer

Medical doctor, specialist in Family and Community Medicine, Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics and an M.P.H. Principal Investigator in RWD & RWE at the Hospital del Mar, and Scientific Coordinator in EHDEN and DARWIN EU projects. Associate Professor in Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Information and Communication Technologies of the Health Department of the Catalan Government and the Real-World Data and Real-World Evidence in Regulatory Decision Making WG of the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) of the World Health Organisation and UNESCO.

Víctor Pérez Sola

Dr. Víctor Pérez, a Medical Doctor and holder of a Ph.D. in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Neuropsychiatry and Addictions (INAD-PSMAR) since 2013. This institute is the largest psychiatry department in Barcelona, catering to approximately 700,000 people. He also leads the Mental Health Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), recognized as a "Consolidated Research Group" by the Agency for Management of University Research Grants of the Government of Catalonia (AGAUR-SGR). Dr. Pérez has supervised over 25 doctoral theses and coordinates the Master's in Introduction to Mental Health Research (UAB). Apart from his academic engagements, he plays a crucial role in various mental health organizations. He is the treasurer of the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) and the president of the Spanish Foundation of Psychiatry and Mental Health (FEPSM). Dr. Pérez's dedication extends to advocating for suicide prevention and mental health at both regional and national levels. He presides over significant mental health committees and consortia, emphasizing the critical need to combat the burden of suicide and enhance mental health support systems.

Montse Ferrer

Montse Ferrer is a doctor of Medicine, Master in Public Health and specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. She is a senior researcher in the Health Services Research Group of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and an associate lecturer at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Dr. Ferrer is the scientific coordinator of BiblioPRO, the virtual library of PRO measures in Spanish. Her research focuses on the development, evaluation and adaptation of Health-Related Quality of Life instruments and other PROs, as well as their application in monitoring the population’s health, in the evaluation of therapeutic interventions, and in routine clinical practice.

Dr. Ferrer has 175 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, cited in 14,039 articles, gaining an h-index of 55 (Scopus, September 2023), and has participated in over 35 competitive research projects (8 of which were international), being the Principal Investigator in 13 national and 5 international projects.

Susana Conde

Susana Conde is a postdoctoral researcher at Hospital del Mar Research Institute - formerly IMIM (Institut Hospital del Mar d'Investigacions Mèdiques). She got a PhD in Biostatistics (University of Limerick, 2011) in which she developed improved methodology for analysing high dimensional multivariate binary comorbidity data; a five-year degree in Mathematics and a three-year degree in Statistics both from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature, a book chapter, the arXiv and conference proceedings. Her current research focusses in implementing statistical tools to find relationships between adverse (mental, or other) health outcomes and covariates related to psychiatric hospitalisation.
